Iteration 2
August - September 2019
Judith Darragh + Rose Meyer with support from Rebecca Wallis
Monique Lacey invites Rose Meyer, Rebecca Wallis invites Judith Darragh. Our project is hugely inspired by the femisphere publication (produced by Imogen Taylor and Judith Darragh thank you both). We tautoko Judith’s advocacy in the arts community and her support of artists run spaces in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Themes from this show are location and celebration. Rose Meyer created a bright sunny map of our street and building location. A small place tucked away in an industrial culdesac, the street has a unapologetic, dark and raw energy. The rotting villa next door with endless summer outdoor punk gigs, the boxing gym, a deserted lot the late night destination for sex workers, the suicide across the road, and our building spanning 40 years of studio facilities.
We celebrate change. Judith’s bright punk wall assemblages of ripped fishnets, clear acrylic wedges and spray paint punches out from the wall, beaming the light of the future. The show declines the heavy and historical tomb of modernism with support from Rebecca Wallis whose light, translucent works reminds us that our bodies are the first place we inhabit.
