mothermother is an artist-run initiative with an inclusive kaupapa that offers support and visibility for our community. We hold a strong focus on supporting local artists, and we celebrate our growing connections outside Tāmaki Makaurau.
mothermother promotes under-represented artists and challenges hierarchical curatorial methods by elevating the unity of a healthy network. A stable future for all depends on it. Knowledge is held by the greater group, where the collective aspect of mothermother is enacted through invitation, friendship, gift and reciprocity.
mothermother artists are not necessarily biological mothers, but rather embody a kaupapa of manaakitanga, caretaking and support.

We acknowledge our muthas before us, in particular; Femisphere and Fiona Jack’s ‘Issues of Representation’ text, which are inspiring forces for this project. We aim to reveal the interconnected networks that support and sustain us, the bodily connections we hold to the land, our societies, each other and our futures.
We acknowledge the history, impacts, and contemporary importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Toitū te tiriti!
All welcome, nau mai haere mai!
