Iteration 1

July 2019

Rebecca Wallis with support from Inga Fillary + Monique Lacey

The context for our new platform is fully formed now. The mothermother project. Celebrating symbiotic relationships within some version of a local art world. Inviting to invite. It is a place where artists can acknowledge both previous and future generations.

Themes from this show are the seen and unseen spaces between us, mass and opposing forces. Inga Fillary invited Rebecca Wallis into the project. our first invite. We experimented with the context of that gesture by showing their work together. Two artists meeting for the first time and testing what ways the space can open up for their work to connect. Ingas tightly bound and cracked inner tube tyre wrenched around the canvas frame sits next to Rebecca’s translucent and tender skin of silk. You can see through its glowing and bruised exterior to the frame and wall… the same wall you can see through Ingas knotted and bonded work. There is a soft open space. Monique Lacey provides support with her opaque three dimensional works that speak to a more weighty mass, a solid mass that protrudes into the room, providing balance and a natural effortless equilibrium.
