Iteration 7
April - Lockdown - July 2020
Jessica Douglas + Caitlin Devoy + et al. with support from Hye Rim Lee
Who could have known that the show’s themes of infection, interaction, well being, interconnection, survival and metamorphosis would become so incredibly pertinent: a global pandemic washed over us as we were installing the works. We postponed our celebration gathering as we went into isolation and a nation wondered what the future would bring. So to celebrate this iteration only four months later is a true joy and privilege, as it is to live in this country, at this time, with this government. And indeed it is a particular privilege to have the agency, as we witness the wider global picture, and the ability to access networks and resources around us that support and enable the arts.
Hye Rim Lee invited the collective et al.. Philippa Blair invited Jessica Douglas. Project Organisers Cheyenne Rose and Nat Tozer invited Caitlin Devoy. Across the show we see the recurring motif of the circle. Riddles of overlapping, pervaded, diagrammatic, emblematic circles subset and connect over every work.
Through studio visits and conversations, the artists identify work they would like to bring into the project. The artists lean in on shared concerns, and together compound and intensify the message.
