Iteration 28 Power Circle celebrates inter-generational connections and the circles of support and friendship that sustain women working in the arts. The exhibition title refers to the care and energy of Philippa Blair’s friends and family who gathered with deep support over the last 6 months until her peaceful death on 5th January 2025.
This show is incredibly special as we share the 6 works of Philippa’s held in the mothermother collection, with works by Judy Darragh and Nat Tozer in concert by way of thanks and acknowledgement to our circles, and in celebration of our times together.
Over the last six months a power circle of wahine toa wrapped around Philippa as her body deteriorated. Thank you Judy Darragh, Trish Gibney, Louise Callan, Shirley Horrocks, and daughters Taisha Brehaut and Alice Hutchinson for your love, companionship and guidance.
Philippa Blair was a great ally to mothermother, seen through her generosity with exhibition making, and all the planning, chats, encouragement and coffee dates she gifted us since our inception in 2019.
Her commitment to painting has and will continue to inspire many. In her early days she was one of a handful of women artists making a living from her work, and fighting for her place to do so. Her contribution is profound.
Philippa sweet lady, you will be so missed. You lived your life fearlessly, and we were honoured to share the last decade of your life with you.
